The most successful people build they careers the end in mind! So now is time to sit down and write all your goals for next season on paper! Biggest question is:
what you want to achieve? Or is there something you would like to improve on? Perhaps win a golf tournament, get your HCP down or learn a completely new short game shot that will help you to score better, or even better – to win that tournament you are dreaming about! Golf is endless game of improvements so I’m sure there is no limits of improvements for any of us any time soon!
Next thing you need is to figure out how to do all that – make the dream become true! Preparing for the golfing season is often split into cycles or phases for golf as well as fitness training. First phase is called: Base Training 1 and it is all about getting back to basics – how to improve on technique on every front and get your basics rock solid that will allow you to build skills on top of them.
On fitness side Base Training 1 is almost like resetting the system. Getting back that long lost flexibility after all those rounds of golf during the summer months, concentrating on basic movement patterns with high repetitions and getting cardiovascular response for your body.
On your golf this involves improving the swing mechanics and spending some time on the range and on the short game area to get real great on hitting basic shots. Often times after long season it is quite nice to chill on golfing side too so keeping golf training short and sharp you are able to have little mental break from the game and gear up you motivation for the coming months and the summer season!
Getting your Base Training 1 done before Christmas would be ideal. After you have created strong base you are ready for the next step: Base Training 2 which involves strength training on the gym with lower repetitions and heavier weights – getting you super strong! Remembering that there is no short cuts for success and building a strong base is the key, if you start cutting the corners and lifting heavy weights without proper base you are in danger of injuring yourself and in worst case ruining your whole season. Golf training is more about scoring and getting great on hitting variation of shots specially around the green.
Pre-Season training begins couple months before the season starts so in most case this is around March time. It is the time when golf starts to take over. Gym work is all about the power so the sessions are short and often times involves medicine ball throwing and more golf specific excercises to get that final touch for those long drives! Golf training is involved with lot of playing and ideally also practising on the course.
Preparing for the season is simple (and we are here to help you if you don’t). You are ahead of the game when you have plenty of time to build a strong base for you fitness as well as golf if you start early! So dig out your training gear, get those goals on paper and get going!!!
Best of luck to your first Base Training phase!
